Nicole Smith, an artist, storyteller, and dreamer who has always found a way to turn the beautiful, the broken, and the unexpected into something magical. My art is deeply personal. It comes from a life filled with extremes—love, loss, heartbreak, resilience, chaos, beauty, and reinvention. I’ve experienced seasons where I had everything figured out and seasons where I had to rebuild myself from the ground up. Through all of it, creating has been the one place where I could take everything I was feeling and transform it into something tangible. I never wanted my paintings to simply be pretty. I want them to make you feel something. My work blends feminine beauty with power, wealth with danger, fantasy with reality, and softness with strength. I’m drawn to dramatic lighting, rich symbolism, mysterious characters, and the contrast between what we show the world and what exists underneath. My influences range from the emotional drama of Renaissance painting and chiaroscuro to the beauty and movement of artists like Gustav Klimt and Vincent van Gogh. A lot of my work explores the idea of becoming. Becoming stronger. Becoming fearless. Becoming someone you never imagined you could be. I’ve learned that life doesn’t always give you the story you thought you were going to have. Sometimes it breaks you apart, takes things from you, changes the people around you, and forces you to start over. But there is something incredibly powerful about discovering that you can create a new version of yourself from the pieces. That is what I try to put into my paintings. My characters are often larger than life because, in some ways, they represent the parts of myself I had to discover along the way—the woman who refuses to stay down, the dreamer who still believes in impossible things, the rebel, the romantic, the survivor, and the woman who knows her worth. I paint for the people who have ever felt like they didn’t quite fit into the world they were given. For the people who have lost themselves and found their way back. For the people who are still becoming. And maybe most importantly, I paint because creating has always reminded me that no matter how complicated life becomes, I still get to decide what I do with the canvas in front of me. This is my story in color, light, symbolism, and imagination.
